Achill Island is located on the west coast of County Mayo situated to the north and west of Westport and Clew bay. Although it is an Island it is connected to the mainland by a bridge across Achill Sound at Mullrany.

The island is a great base for the angler with a huge number of surf beaches and shore marks, and a number of charter boats working from the Island. Achill Island holds the two shark records recorded in Ireland.
If you have patience and a pair of binoculars the cliffs around the Island provide a great location for whale watching and basking sharks are a regular feature during the spring and summer. Many birds nest in the cliffs providing great opportunities for birdwatching.
